Never pay anyone who claims to have your animal.

Have you found it?

What to do when you find an animal.

  1. Have a vet read its microchip or tattoo: most practices do it free, and it is the surest way to find its family.
  2. Tell the town hall where you found it: it is responsible for stray animals.
  3. Don’t keep it without telling anyone: its family may be looking for it.
  4. In France, the mayor is in charge of stray animals (Rural Code, art. L211-22 ff.): the town hall will tell you where to take it.
  5. I-CAD’s Filalapat service also lets you report a found animal.

These pointers are not legal advice: the rules vary from one country and town to another.
