Your data

What we keep, why, and for how long — as the site works today, not as it may work one day.

If you are looking for an animal

We keep nothing about you. Your answers about your living situation travel in the page address, not on our servers; close the tab and nothing of it remains with us. No advertising tracker, no analytics, no third-party script, and the fonts are served by us. Only the photos of listings taken from other sites are loaded from those sites, which then see your device’s address, as with any image.

If you create an account

The Family account records: your email address, your name if you give it, the irreversible fingerprint of your password — never the password itself — and, if you fill it in, your file: what you are looking for if you already know (dog, cat…), adults, the age of each child, the animals you already have by species — how many, whether they are vaccinated, neutered (FIV/FeLV tested for cats), point by point, and if one of them has an illness or a disability, which one, chosen from a list specific to the species (blind, missing a leg, FIV…), with a few free words if you wish —, type of home, outdoor space, town, optional phone number, and the life the animal would have with you — hours alone per day, pace, care during your absences, everyone’s agreement at home, and if you say so the veterinary costs you have planned or not, your experience, a planned move, whether you rent. And, if you want, what you would like help with — insurance, food, training, boarding, equipment — and, for those only, which option would interest you among three priced levels. None of this is passed to the organisation; a partner only receives anonymous totals. All these answers are chosen from closed lists. Nothing else: no supporting document, no income, no health data. If you give it, your postal address: like your phone number, the organisation only receives it if it accepts your application, because it appears on the commitment and transfer certificates. And the date and version of the terms of use you accepted when you signed up.

When you apply for a particular animal, we ask you three to six questions that depend on them — indoors or outdoors for a cat, walks and fencing for a dog, planned space for a small animal — and, if you already have animals, whether they are vaccinated, neutered and, for cats, FIV/FeLV tested. Those answers go with the application to that organisation only, and are saved in your file to be pre-filled next time: you read them over, correct if needed, and send.

When you apply for an animal, the organisation that has claimed the listing with us sees your living situation, your home and your town. Your name, email and phone number are passed on only if it shortlists your application. Every time it opens your application, we record it and you read it underneath (“file viewed by the organisation on 3 September”); that record, which it does not see, is erased after six months or with your account. It sees neither your other applications nor the answers you have received, and we rank no families. An application with no answer after four days no longer counts towards your limit of four; the organisation still sees it for thirty days. Deleting your account erases everything, open applications included: the organisation then sees “withdrawn by the family”, with no data at all.

The Patte Blanche team — today a single person, with a named account — sees your account, not your file: your name, your email, your town, whether your file is complete and how many applications you have made. If you asked for a helping hand (insurance, food, training, pet care, equipment), it also sees those answers and your phone number, so it can help you; those answers never go to an organisation. It can suspend, reactivate or delete an account, and each of these actions is recorded in a log, with its name and the date. It also sees your phone number and postal address, if you gave them, so it can reach you, and the date on which you accepted the terms of use.

Partner links. If you say what you would like help with — food, training, pet-sitting, equipment —, your space may show you links to partners on that subject, and Patte Blanche may receive a commission if you buy through one of them. These links go through a redirect on our site: we count clicks per partner and per day, without knowing who clicked, and nothing from your file is passed to the partner. You can hide them with one click. No insurance is ever offered.

  • Adults only — French law forbids transferring an animal to a minor without parental consent (art. L. 214-8 of the rural code).
  • Deleted after 2 years without signing in, with a warning 30 days beforehand.
  • Erasable at any time — everything goes, sessions included.

If you represent an organisation

The organisation area records the organisation’s name, its logo if it uploads one, and for each team member their name, email address, role and rights, as well as the log of actions taken on the listings — that is the record of consent to their distribution. A password is optional and we keep only its fingerprint: signing in can always be done through a single-use link. It also records the date and version of the terms of use accepted at sign-up, and the organisation’s phone number, given only to the families it selects.

If your organisation publishes an email address on its listings and has no account with us, we may write to that address, at most twice, to tell you that your listings appear here and what you can do about them — confirm them, receive applications, or take them down. Every message carries a link to stop receiving anything; one click is enough, and it is final. We never write to an address you have not published yourself.

If someone asks, from one of your listings relayed here, for the listings published under your organisation’s name to be removed, we send a confirmation link to the address you publish in those listings, never anywhere else, only one valid link at a time and at most 2 in 24 hours. Nothing is removed without your confirmation, on that link’s page. For the life of that link (24 hours), we keep that address, the organisation’s name and the link’s fingerprint — never the link itself — then everything is erased at the next maintenance run; a counter also keeps your address for 24 hours, to enforce that limit, then is erased at the next maintenance run. As for all our emails, our sending log keeps your address and the message subject for 30 days. If the removal is carried out, our audit log keeps the organisation’s name and your masked address. About the person who clicked, we keep nothing but their IP address, in an anti-abuse counter that counts over 15 minutes and is erased at the next maintenance run. The removal itself is permanent: the organisation’s name stays on our opt-out list, which is what stops us from relaying listings published under that name again.

We also keep a list of the organisations that publish animals: their name, their country and the contact details they publish themselves in their listings, with the listing that carries them. When the national business register publishes the name and role of the manager of a breeder or a company, we take them from that register and from no other source, without their date of birth. This data is used to present organisations to families and to write to them (legitimate interest). Contact details disappear with the listings; the manager’s name is erased after 3 years without contact from the organisation. To object: claire.vandesype@patteblanche.io.

If you report a problem

Your account is read by a person and is never published: it creates no rating on the organisation. Your email is optional, is used only to contact you back, and is erased 7 days after your report is closed. Your IP address is used only to limit the number of reports per hour and is erased after one hour.

The listings you read

Some carry an organisation’s address or phone number. Those details are there to contact it about an animal, are never exported in bulk, and are erased 90 days after the last time we saw the listing online.

What the site stores on your device

Only what makes the things you ask for work, and nothing that follows you from site to site: no advertising tracker, no audience measurement. That is why no banner asks for your consent (article 82 of the French Data Protection Act).
